Tour des Fjords + Tour of Norway blir til Tour of Norway i 2019
Finally it is decided that the name of the new combined race will be Tour of Norway!
The 2019 edition will consist of 6 stages with the first start on Tuesday 28th May. This will be after the Hammer Stavanger race, which takes place on Friday 24th to Sunday 26th of May. We are now working hard to land all stages with start and finishing locations, but it is already clear that the southern part of the country will be visited in 2019 with a finish in Kristiansand on 30th May (Christ's Day of Heaven's Day).
We have used the time after the announcement of the merger between Tour des Fjords and Tour of Norway to make a thorough assessment of what the new name should be. We have received input from far and near, and it is very exciting to see that so many have such strong ownership of the names of both the "old" races. As we now have decided to continue the Tour of Norway name it is because the race has the ambition to embrace all of southern and central Norway, with alternation year by year between which parts of the country we will visit. We believe that Tour of Norway is the best-known name for the biggest bike-race in Norway, being the best international name. Furthermore we have chosen to continue the graphic profile of Tour des Fjords, and clearly continue the identity of the Tour des Fjords along with the new name.
Tour of Norway is owned and managed by Tour des Fjords AS, which is also the organizer of Hammer Stavanger. Our partnership with Velon/Infront secure that riders from some of the top teams take part in our races. Through the partnership agreement with Interspons, we have access to resource staff from the old Tour of Norway organization and together we will make sure to carry on the best from both races. There will be spectacular racing with the best riders in the peloton and we are looking forward to create great cycling-festivals in the places we shall visit in the coming years!
