Remco Evenepoel wins the opening stage of Tour of Norway 2022!

Remco Evenepoel (Quick-step Alpha Vinyl team) wins the first stage to Voss in front of the home favorite Tobias Johannessen (Uno-X Pro Cycling)

The riders were more than ready for the start of Tour of Norway in Bergen. 

Shortly after the start, the a breakaway of 6 riders went away.The breakaway consisted of Frederik Muff (Team Coloquick), Jens Reynders (Sport Vlaanderen - Baloise), Stephen Bassett (Human Powered Health), Eirik Lunder and Håkon Aalrust (Team Coop), and Jokin Murguialday (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA).

The first intermediate sprint in Bjørkheim came after 37.7 km, were Eirik Lunder (Team Coop) crossed the line first, in front of his team-mate Håkon Aalrust. In third came Jens Reynders (Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise).

At the second category climb up to Fossen Bratte, the focus was once again on Team Coop as Eirik Lunder won the K.O.M. ahead of his team-mate Håkon Aalrust. Stephen Bassett (Human Powered Health) reached the top in third place.

The intermediate sprint in Granvin was also won by Eirik Lunder (Team Coop), just ahead of Jens Reynders (Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise) and Stephen Bassett (Human Powered Health).

The last K.O.M. came after 132,5 km at Skjervsfossen. Once again it was a Team Coop rider, who won the K.O.M., but this time Håkon Aalrust was first. Behind him was Stephen Bassett (Human Powered Health) and Frederik Muff (Team Coloquick).

After the climb, Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team and Uno-X Pro Cycling increased the pace to catch the breakaway, and the peloton was stretched to breaking point. 

At the bottom of the final hill, the breakaway was caught. Several riders tried to get away from the bunch, but in the end Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team) was the strongest and won the stage in front of Tobias Halland Johannessen (Uno-X Pro Cycling) and Eduard Prades (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA).
