Following an illustrious career as one of the world’s most decorated cyclists, Alexander Kristoff is now strengthening the team at Fjords Cycling. Starting June 1, he will step into the role of Race Director for the Tour of Norway.
This appointment is made possible through a significant grant from the Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank, which has awarded Fjords Cycling AS 2,000,000 NOK earmarked for the project “Equal Opportunities in Cycling in Rogaland 2026–2029.” These funds ensure Fjords Cycling’s ability to plan for the future, strengthen the organization, and continue its work regarding equality in sports, volunteerism, and public health.
Roy Hegreberg, General Manager of Fjords Cycling, is very grateful for the trust shown by the foundation:
“This support is absolutely crucial for us. It enables us to strengthen the team at Fjords Cycling over the next three years, allowing us to continue the work of organizing professional cycling races in Norway for some of the world’s best riders, both women and men. We greatly appreciate the positive process we have had with the foundation.”
Kristoff, who retired after the 2025 season, has already been affiliated with the Tour of Norway as an ambassador since January 1. His focus will now be on contributing to the participating teams, helping to maintain and develop relationships with partners, and participating in route planning and the further development of the race. Following the challenging decision to cancel the 2026 edition due to the loss of state funding, the main goal for the new Race Director is to lay the foundation for the race’s return. Together with Hegreberg, Kristoff will play a key role in the work to revive both the women’s and men’s races in 2027.
“The Tour of Norway has been a highlight throughout my active career, especially when we cycled in Stavanger, which truly is my home turf. We have a unique race in fantastic surroundings, with crowds along the route, which we will work incredibly hard to bring back in 2027. I look forward to being part of the team that organizes the Tour of Norway,” says a proud Kristoff.
Fjords Cycling was established in 2012 and has since been behind the race formerly known as Tour des Fjords, which took over the Tour of Norway in 2019. The race gathers some of the world’s best male and female cyclists on Norwegian soil and aims to promote both Norwegian cycling and Norway as a destination.
The grant from the Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank also enables a stronger focus in other areas. John Hauge, founder of Lavterskel AS and host of the podcast of the same name, is now joining Fjords Cycling full-time. Hauge, who has already been engaged in a 50% position, works with running, everyday health, and physical activity based in Rogaland.
Through Lavterskel (Low Threshold), Hauge has become a clear voice in the local running community. His approach is not about elite sports or perfect training weeks, but about helping people get started and building environments characterized by mastery, belonging, and the joy of movement. At Fjords Cycling, he will combine this work with strengthening relationships with existing partners, actively working to recruit new ones, and serving as the face of Fjords Cycling in the running community.
“The work with Lavterskel will become even more important in the coming years, if that’s possible. Whether it’s about running, cycling, or public health, the community is the very core—that is exactly where I want to put my time, energy, and experience going forward. My goal is still to contribute to a healthier, more active, and more inclusive region, and now I have a unique opportunity to do exactly that at Fjords Cycling,” says Hauge.
